(hand)MADE IN KOŠICE REGIÓN

When we pay a visit to a town, which we don’t explore on a regular basis, there are often places which we are almost certain to look for. The town centre, some interesting historical monuments, as well as sports stadiums for sports enthusiasts, as well as shopping centres for many of us these days…And there are places, which we are automatically drawn to as tourists- information centres.

If you find yourself heading in the direction of the region of Košice, and the town of Košice itself, be sure to stop by the Regional Information Centre. Once there, you can get your hands on some maps and some valuable tourist advice, not to forget, each trip having always become simultaneous with souvenirs. (You want to bring your loved ones a piece ‘of the world’, and have a reminder stuck to your fridge for yourself, in the very least, don’t you?) However, these souvenirs are different- exceptional -made by the skilful people of the Košice region.

From this single place in the centre of Košice you can therefore come away with objects, for which you would ordinarily have to painstakingly scout all the craftsmen’s workshops in the entire district for. For instance- original ceramic containers, bowls or mugs made by real craftsmen. One can also find joy in the horseshoes, made for luck, by real blacksmiths, or woven carpets straight out of Rejdová, where there is a long tradition of their production. You can also buy the natural cosmetics ‘Soaphoria’ from Veľké Kapušany, wooden products by Erich Černaj from Gemerská Poloma and last but not least, one can also find products made by clients from social services’ homes, made in their ergotherapy sessions.

If you prefer to keep the memories of your trip in a wearable form, you can find one of a kind t-shirts or hoodies, their dominant features being typical of the individual locations of the region. For those who like fiddle around with hands-on crafts, there are designated miniature paper models (to the ratio of 1:100) of St. Urban’s Tower and St. Michael’s Chapel.

In the Regional Information Centre you can therefore find gifts which aren’t just ordinary souvenirs. They are gifts with their own story, their own origins and the spirit of the Košice region.
